A Word to Transform Your Season

When your life runs into a storm, when abnormal becomes the new normal, when your finances, health or relationships are caught in a storm, when everything seems to be going in reverse, you need the sort of wisdom Peter exhibited when he cried out to Jesus as he was about to sink in Matt 14.

The Bible says the boat of the disciples was in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Master Jesus wasn’t in the boat with them at that moment, but suddenly he appeared, walking on the sea. This week, Jesus will appear suddenly to you in your time of need.

The disciples were shocked and troubled, but Jesus spoke comforting words to them: Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid. This week, Jesus will speak comforting words to you and your fears shall completely vanish. And Peter said: Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So, he got out of the boat.

Peter’s request was bold and direct. He dared to be different, probably thinking, this man has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, I will simply ask him to empower me, so I also can walk on water: Bid me to come Lord, give me the ability to do like you are doing.

Jesus responded to Peter by releasing a single word: COME. In other words, Jesus took his word and spread it on the water and told Peter: come, step on my word and you will walk where I am walking. I’m the one that watches over my word to perform it. In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God (John 1:1) I am not just the way, truth, life. I am also the word; my spoken word and I are the same.

So, Peter literally stepped out of the boat, unto the word, not the waves. He planted his feet on the word, fastened his eyes on Jesus and began to walk on water.

But at some point, when Peter saw that the wind was boisterous, he stepped off the word and unto the waves, his feet slipped off the word, he became afraid, and started to sink. But Peter took a wise decision. When he realized that his situation was deteriorating, he shouted to Jesus for help: Lord save me! I don’t like what I’m experiencing, I’ve got to call unto the Lord. And Jesus the savior reached out to him and saved him.

Can you say this prayer every morning this week? God, give me the wisdom of Peter to cry out to you even before I start drowning. The devil will not, cannot, shall not, is unable to, doesn’t have the power to take me down because God is my present help in time of trouble (Ps 46:1) This week, I will cry unto the Lord, remain in his word, and not take my eyes off the author and the finisher of my faith. Sickness will not overtake me, temporary unemployment will not drive me crazy, momentary affliction will not push me under. I will make it, no matter what the world says. I may be weary, but a seasoned word shall transform my season.

Have a great week.
